Further, water or nutrient solution is drawn in by the substrate through the holes in the pots, and the roots of the plants absorb the nutrients and moisture the plant needs. This principle resembles the flooding or intermittent flooding method. Choose 150w grow light.

Smart Valve in AutoPot

In a nutshell, everything happens as follows. Smart Valve uses the laws of physics and does not require any electricity or other energy sources. It is based on an air pressure system to control the amount of water or nutrient solution supplied to the pan. The plant uses the water/nutrient solution from the pan, the level changes as it is consumed, causing the air pressure inside the valve to change. The Smart Valve responds to pressure changes by opening the water/nutrient solution to the pan. As soon as the pressure is equalized, the valve closes.

Valve «Smart Valve» capable of holding constant the liquid level in the installation AutoPot, for different plants; watermelon and pumpkin require more water, get more, and lettuce or herbs less, get less. The diagrams below illustrate in detail how it works.

Fluid Mode # 1: The Smart Valve is initially open. The top port is closed and the fluid inlet is open. If the valve is connected to a line, then, under the influence of gravity, liquid flows from the main tank into the sump without hindrance.

The Smart Valve is open. Fluid supply mode. Sump Mode # 2: As the sump fills with liquid, the Smart Valve floats are lifted by the buoyancy of the water. The higher the liquid level, the higher the floats rise. The fluid supply port is smoothly closed and the upper port is opened (Fig. 2).

Figure: 2. The Smart Valve is open. Power mode # 3: Approximately when the sump is filled to 10 mm, the liquid supply port closes and the upper port opens to release excess air from the lower float (Fig. 3).

Smart Valve in fully closed position. The solution is absorbed into the substrate with plants. Valve opening mode # 4: As soon as the water from the sump drops to the minimum level, the float of the main valve is lowered and the fluid supply port opens. The tray is refilled with nutrient solution or water (fig. 4).

Smart Valve in open position. The liquid has soaked into the potting medium. How does the valve system work? In fact, the principle of operation is very simple and does not require electricity or any other sources of energy. Everything is based on physical laws. Operation does not require skills or special knowledge. Next, I will try to explain in more detail. After the valve is closed and the liquid has accumulated in the pan, the plants are automatically watered. Through the lower part of the pot, the substrate is saturated with moisture or nutrient solution, reducing its level in the pan. The closed air hole in the chamber with the main valve prevents it from dropping and opening the water or nutrient solution supply hole (fig. 5).

Smart Valve in closed position. The liquid is smoothly absorbed into the substrate. The level in the pallet decreases. Then the plants absorb water or nutrient solution as needed. No need to worry about watering and worry about possible overflows or underflows. Plant roots do not experience oxygen deficiency problems. The Smart Valve is still closed and no additional water is flowing to the sump (Figure 6).

The liquid level has dropped to a near minimum, but Smart Valve is still closed. As soon as the water or nutrient solution from the pan has been assimilated by the plants, water comes out of the section with the main valve through the lower slots, the polka is lowered and the hole for supplying water or solution is opened. The pallet is filled with liquid and then everything happens in a circle starting from point 1 (Fig. 7).
